Abbott Asking For Federal Assistance

Governor Greg Abbott is requesting a presidential disaster declaration for a half-dozen Texas

counties that were hit by flooding from Tropical Storm Imelda. Yesterday’s request includes

Chambers, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, and Orange counties. Other counties may be

added to the request since damage from the widespread flooding is still being assessed. If the

request is granted, residents of the affected counties would be eligible for a number of federal

assistance programs.
