Sunday: Coronavirus Update

+The Beaumont Health Authority has reported the city’s second COVID-19 positive test. This individual is currently quarantined at home. Hardin County and Chambers County had their first reported cases on Saturday, In Hardin County the 50-year old Lumberton man is self quarantined at home. He is an offshore worker. The Chambers County case is reported in the western portion of the county.

+Beginning tomorrow, Lamar University in Beaumont will move all courses to either online or instructional method. For additional information relating to classes, campus hours for computer labs and a schedule of takeout meals for students, go to lamar.edu/coronavirus.

+All area schools remain closed. Most districts are offering alternative education services and are providing meals for students to be picked up. For additional information, you are asked to go to your district’s social media page for instructions.

+Texas' primary election runoff is being postponed. The original date was scheduled to be May 26th but will now be held on July 14th. Governor Gregg Abbott signed the proclamation Friday evening in response to the spread of the coronavirus. This came just hours after the state's Democratic Party filed a suit demanding to hold voting through mail-in votes only.

+Restaurants across Texas remained closed under the order of local, county, and state officials. Several eateries are offering dine out services for pickup or delivery. Contact your restaurant of choice to see what services they are providing. Nearly all fast food restaurants are opened for the drive thru lane only.

+ The COVID-19 hotline for Jefferson, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, and Orange counties remains in operation. The number is 409-550-2536. Residents must call this number to see if the qualify to be screened. Once you call that number, you will be interviewed by a nurse. The hotline number again is 409-550-2536.
