Indian Mascot Challenged At PNG

The Indian mascot at Port Neches-Groves is being challenged. The district received a

letter yesterday from the Cherokee Nations revoking a 1979 certification that called

the school district “Ambassadors of Goodwill”. In a letter on the school district’s

facebook pager, Superintendent Dr. Mike Gonzales says it is important to remember

that the PNG schools belong to the PNG communities and any further decisions on

this topic belong to the community. There are 26 high schools across the state of

Texas with the Indians mascot.
