Following an interlocal agreement with Beauregard Parish to help with overflow, 11 inmates from the
Newton County Jail have been transported to Louisiana. Newton County cannot exceed 14 inmates and
the Texas Jail Commission inspected the jail last month and Newton County was over the limit. The initial
cost is $60.00 a day per inmate. On January 1st the cost will be $45 daily. There are also eight inmates
from Newton County housed in Jasper County.
