A crude oil fire in southern Newton County late Wednesday in the Hartburg community shut down highway 87 for a time. The fire is believed to have been caused by a lighting strike. Several fire departments from both Newton and Orange County responded to the blaze involving several above ground tanks. Highway 87 reopened last night and there were no reports of injuries.
