A man that claims he accidentally shot and killed his wife has been convicted and sentenced. An
Orange County jury found 53-year Robert Hand guilty of criminally negligent homicide
for the March 2017 shooting death of 24-year old Megan Smith in Orange. He was sentenced
to two years in state jail and fined $10,000. Hand, who testified during the trial, claims he
thought the gun was empty when it discharged and killed Smith. He could of faced up to 20
years if he would have been convicted of manslaughter.
