Lamar University Alum Larry Lawson has received the prestigious Horatio Alger Award.
The award honors the achievements of outstanding Americans who have succeeded in
spite of adversity and to emphasize the importance of higher education. Lawson says he
is honored. Lawson is only the fourth person from southeast Texas to achieve this honor in 71
years. Past honorees include Reba McEntire, Rob. Lowe, and Sam Walton.
