The state has rested in the punishment phase in the trial of Helen Cox. The former treasurer
of the Lumberton High School Band Booster Club pleaded guilty earlier this week to stealing
more than $70,000 from the club. She used the money to gamble at casinos and to purchase
items for personal use. The defense will begin testimony this morning at the Hardin County
Courthouse. Cox, who chose a jury for the punishment phase, faces up to 20 years in prison.
