A Beaumont man accused of placing an explosive device near the Starbucks on Dowlen Road
and causing damage to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Delaware Street in Beaumont has
been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury. 40-year old Jonathan Matthew Torres is
charged with use of an explosive device to damage property, possession of an unregistered
destructive device, and mailing a threatening communication. If convicted, Torres faces five
to 20 years in prison.
