Beaumont is one of the cities in Texas that should benefit from the proceeds from a lawsuit
against Volkswagen. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality released a plan last
week to use more than 200 million dollars from the settlement to cut air pollution and help
put more zero-emission vehicles on Texas roads. Texas sued Volkswagen in 2015 for selling
diesel vehicles that were rigged to bypass missions tests. In addition to Beaumont, Houston,
DFW, San Antonio, and El Paso County will get priority in the state plan.
