A Port Arthur man is jailed facing multiple charges. Police responded to the 3000 block of
7th yesterday afternoon about a man in a parking lot with a gun. While fleeing the man
fired shots striking a woman in the leg. The suspect confronted officers while holding his
gun. He was taken into custody. While getting out of the patrol car at the Jefferson County
Correctional Facility, the suspect fled onto Highway 69 while handcuffed. Following his
arrest, 30-year old Lee Smith is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on
a police officer, and escape.
