The DPS continues to investigate a fatal shooting involving a trooper. The trooper attempted
to make a traffic stop on I-10 this past Friday when the driver refused to stop. The driver
crashed his vehicle on I-10 west of Beaumont. Following the crash, the driver, 46-year old
Edwin Gomez of Jennings Louisiana, got out of his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the
trooper fire striking Gomez, who was taken to the hospital where he died.
