The DPS will be focusing on the Move Over/Slow Down Enforcement this morning. The
law requires motorists to move over to the left lane or slow down 20 mph below the posted
speed limitwhen an emergency vehicle is on the shoulder of the road with its emergency
lights activated. This includes law enforcement, EMS, Tex-Dot vehicles, and tow trucks.
An operation will take place in this area this morning from 7:00 to 11:00. Violation of the
law can result in a fine of up to $200.The fine will increase to $500 if there is property
damage and up to $2,000 and jail time if someone is injured.
