In Newton County, the sheriff’s office is investigating a deadly shooting. A man was shot
just before midnight last night at a residence on FM 2626 in Newton. The victim was shot
in the left shoulder. The bullet exited the shoulder and entered his upper body. The victim was
transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he died. The shooter is cooperating with
investigators. An arrest has not been made at this time as the shooting is still under investigation.
