State Representative Dade Phelan, of Beaumont, has sent a letter to President Donald Trump
voicing his concern for the lack of reliable healthcare options for over 1.6 million veterans in
Texas, including more than 22,000 in Jefferson and Orange Counties. Phelan is asking for
the establishment of a new VA Medical Inpatient Hospital here is his district in Southeast
Texas. Two options are Baptist Hospital in Orange and St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur.
Phelan’s 21st District of Texas represents both part of Jefferson County and all of Orange
County.
