+There are now 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Newton, and Jasper Counties. Eight in Beaumont, two in Lumberton, two in Silsbee, and one in Orange. The area reported its first COVID-19 related death on Thursday. 54-year old Michael Westbrook, of Lumberton passed away after being tested positive. Mr. Westbrook was the band director at Hardin-Jefferson High School.
+Through yesterday The Southeast Texas Call Center, 409-550-2536, had received 1,014 calls. 315 and have been referred to the testing site at the Jerry Ware Terminal at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport in Jefferson County. 40 were tested yesterday. The call center will continue to operate Monday-Friday from 8:00 – 5:00 until further notice.
+The Nederland Independent School District’s facilities will remained closed through April 10th. Weekly plans for the flexible education program to keep students engaged will be posted every Friday at 3:00 on the district’s webpage nederlandisd.org, If you do not have access to a device, printed packets can be picked up. High school students at the school, elementary students at the Performing Arts Center, and middle school students in the high school baseball parking lot this coming Monday and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 and 4:30 to 5:30.
+Lamar Institute of Technology has announced the cancellation of its spring graduation. The school is surveying prospective graduates to select a preferred date.
