The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two shootings that occurred last week. The
first was an Arkansas man that was shot twice . He reportedly then drove back to Arkansas
before deputies could get to seen. He has outstanding warrants in Arkansas. The second shooting
was in the Gist area. The victim, who went to the hospital in Jasper, initially refused to provide
deputies with any information. A couple of days later the victim wanted to talk to detectives.
He also admitted he had been drinking and taking pills.
