(Austin, TX) -- The Department of Public Safety says the temporary waiver for driver's licenses and ID cards will end in April. The DPS made the announcement on Tuesday, and said customers can renew by appointment. Gov. Greg Abbott granted the waiver earlier this year because of the pandemic. It applies to driver's licenses, commercial learner permits, ID cards, and election ID certificates that expired on or after March 13th. Starting January 4th, designated offices will offer expanded hours for license renewal. Customers can make appointments online for the extended office hours.
