A Kirbyville man has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in federal prison for stealing mail. In
September of last year, 37-year old William Cody Shaver was found to be in possession of
more than 200 pieces of stolen mail that included credit cards, checks, gift cards, and personal
identification numbers. It was determined Shaver victimized 82 separate Newton County
residents at an estimated loss to those victims of more than $200,000. He pleaded guilty to
the charges.
