A longtime Southeast Texas State Representative will not seek re-election. Joe Deshotel, who
has represented Jefferson County for more than 20 years made the announcement yesterday. His
current term ends at the end of next year. The seat will be on the ballot in the March primary and
again the next November’s general election. Prior to serving as a state representative, the
Beaumont attorney served eight years on the Beaumont city council.
