A man is in custody and charged with injuring a Galveston County deputy by hitting him with a car. Deputies arrested 22-year-old Darius Gilbert for aggravated assault of a peace officer. Investigators believe Gilbert was intoxicated at the time of the crash, which happened on Highway 87 in Crystal Beach early Sunday morning. Sgt. John Hamm suffered head injuries, a broken arm, and two broken legs. The crash happened during Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula, which drew about 40-thousand Jeep enthusiasts from nationwide. The event resulted in 38 injuries and more than 175 arrests.
