The "Ike Dike" is getting some traction in D.C. The U.S. House on Wednesday approved a bill authorizing federal agencies to start planning for a 31-billion-dollar coastal barrier that would protect hundreds of miles of the Texas Gulf Coast. The proposed "Ike Dike" is named after a hurricane that hit Southeast Texas in 2008. The concrete gate system would span a nearly two-mile gap between Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates it would take about 18-years to build. The House bill still needs Senate approval.
