Testimony is expected begin this week in the trial of a man accused in the death of a Beaumont
police officer. 20-year old Luis Fernando Torres is charged with intoxication manslaughter in
a head-on collision on Highway 69 that killed officer Sheena Yarborough Powell in May of
2020. Torres initially pleaded guilty, but later withdrew his guilty plea. He is also charged with
intoxication assault for injuring Officer Gabriel Fells in the same crash.
