A Jefferson County jury has sentenced 20-year old Luis Torres to 20 years in prison after
convicting him of intoxication manslaughter. In August of 2020, Torres was driving drunk the
wrong way on Highway 69 and collided head-on with a Beaumont police unit killing Officer
Sheena Yarbrough-Powell. He will have to serve at least half the sentence before becoming
eligible for parole. He will be credited for the two years he has already served. Torres is also
charged with intoxication assault for injuring officer Gabriel Fells in the same crash.
