I am starting to get a shiver or two when I "label read". It's a new world for sure out there. Yesterday I saw "wild caught" shrimp advertised. Stupid me. I thought shrimp were caught in the water. If you have ever been to the Atchafalaya basin you know everything in that water is wild. Moccasins, Gators, big Gar, etc. It's a miracle the shrimp survive in the first place. "Best if used by". There's another one. I thought we all knew that when something spoiled (like milk) we could tell. That is, unless your sense of smell is gone. "Low sodium". Are you kidding me? If Soy sauce usually contains 1200 grams or however, they measure it and the "low" contains 1000, is that really a good break? "Picked by hand". Yeah, that's one I really believe. The only thing that's picked by hand nowadays is your nose. "Organic". That means it will cost twice as much. "Cage free " eggs? I haven't talked to any hens lately, except a few old ones at the Post Office who tell me my show is vulgar. "No child labor" is used. That one raises some red flags. Can the authorities in Bangladesh be trusted on their word? "Made in the USA". What part? Finally, there is "100 percent pure" .Is there really such a thing? Only if you trust politicians.
