Fire Captain Elgin Browning says a smoke detector may have saved a life this morning. Around
3:30 firefighters were called to a home on Oila Road in Orangefield. The fire started in the garage
of the home and quickly spread throughout the house, which was a total loss. An active smoke
detector alerted the man at the home, who was able to get out of the burning structure. At this time
it is believed a fan left on in the garage cause the fire. The official cause is under investigation.
Firefighters were on the scene for nearly seven hours.
