Looks like the FTC is once again sticking their unwelcome nose where it doesn't belong. They are looking long and hard at the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons. This is the second time the two have tried to get together. Granted they would be huge but lately it seems small is the only accepted rite of passage. Big can be good. The fear is union and that as one big conglomerate they could raise prices. First of all, the general public is much too savvy to be fooled. They will always seek out the bargains, partially because inflation exists. People know where the deals are. As far as unions, I shudder to think what can happen to the employees. I see people acclimating to the self checkouts. The small grocery stores still have the service the big guys cannot compare to so many of those will still be around but the FTC needs to back off and let us worry about the price of a loaf of bread.
