Jury deliberations will resume this morning at the Jefferson County Courthouse in the punishment
phase in the trial of a man who pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter. In July of 2022, 40-year old
Michael Miller drove off of Burrell-Wingate Road striking 71-year old James Lee. The off-duty Jefferson
County Sheriff’s deputy was mowing his grass and died at the scene. Miller took the stand yesterday and
admitted he is an alcoholic. He faces two to 20 years.
