A man that pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter in the death of an off duty Jefferson County
deputy sheriff has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by a Jefferson County jury. That is the sentence
assessed to 40-year old Michael Miller. In July of 2022 he was driving on Burrell-Wingate Road, lost
control and struck 71-year old James Lee, who was mowing his lawn. Miller pleaded guilty on Monday
and the trial went directly to the punishment phase.
