(Austin, TX) --A bill filed Tuesday in the Texas Senate would make teaching a better-paid profession in the state.Senate Bill 26 would provide pay raises to teachers based on years of experience, expand a state program that offers raises to teachers based on student performance, and give free pre-K enrollments to the children of educators. Earlier this month, Governor Greg Abbott declared teacher pay an "emergency item," allowing state lawmakers to fast-track any proposals on the issue during the current legislative session that ends June 2nd.
