When the Nederland city council meets tonight they will be discussing the hiring of a new chief of police. Chief Gary Porter has announced his retirement. He has been with the Nederland Police Department for more than 40 years, including being chief of the department since 2018 after replacing Chief Darrell Bush, who also retired. An interim chief is expected to be appointed.
