Grand Jury Clears Deputy In Deadly Shooting

No charges will be filed in an officers involved shooting in Newton County. The grand jury has determined the deputy involved in the February 21st shooting acted appropriately and committed no wrongdoing. Deputies were answering a domestic call off of FM 2626 when the suspect, with a felony warrant, popped out of a pickup toolbox and pointed a gun at the deputy. The deputy shot the suspect, 49-year old Michael Boyd Powers of Bon Wier, who died at the scene. The deputy was not hurt.
