A freshman Washington Congresswoman is sponsoring a new U.S. House bill that would make tuition free for most college students in America. Democrat Pramila Jayapal says student debt is now out of control and there's no way that should be. American Federation of Teachers of Washington is backing Jayapal's College for All Act, which would make 4-year college tuition free for students whose parents make less than $125,000 a year. The AFT says unreasonable student debt is hurting the economy. The bill would also cut interest rates on new and existing federal student loans in half.
Independent Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has introduced a similar bill in the Senate.
