Austin Considers Decriminalizing Marijuana

A group of Austin City Council members are pushing for the decriminalization of small amount of marijuana. The council members along with community activists gathered at City Hall this morning saying Item 59 needed to be passed due to the state's new law on hemp. Councilman Jimmy Flannigan says the decriminalization push is pragmatic because it costs too much money for police to test the difference between legal hemp and illegal pot. The ordinance would only cover pot with around a point-three-percent concentration of THC. A vote is set for Thursday.
