Families Losing School Lunch Money Could Get Grocery Money

(Austin, TX) -- Texas families who have lost access to school lunches because of school closures have some grocery money on the way. On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will distribute more than a billion-dollars in food benefits to needy families through the federal Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer. The program will pay a one-time benefit of 285-dollars per child, which can be used to pay for groceries in the same way as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
