A shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort on Tuesday (December 9) resulted in one death and left another person injured. The incident occurred at Young Hall, a dormitory on campus, around 3:35 p.m. The campus is currently on lockdown as police investigate the situation.
Frankfort Police Department officials confirmed that the suspect is in custody. Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged the injuries and expressed his condolences on social media, urging the community to "pray for those affected."
Kentucky State University, a historically Black university with over 2,200 students and 450 faculty and staff, is working to gather more information before releasing an official statement.
Franklin County Judge-Executive Michael Mueller praised the swift response of law enforcement while expressing deep sadness over the tragedy. He called for community support for the victims, their families, and the university community.
As the investigation continues, more details will be released by the university and law enforcement agencies.
