A weekend wreck has claimed the life of a Newton County woman. The DPS reports 52-year
old Tangye Dee Erwin, of Burkeville, was a passenger in a car that was traveling southbound
on Highway 87 south of Bleakwood. The driver, 64-year old Cynthia Erwin Wilthoit, of Orange,
lost control of the car, left the highway, and struck a tree. Erwin was transported to Christus St.
Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where she was pronounced dead. Wilhoit was transported to
Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.
