A wreck in Jasper County has claimed the life of a Beaumont man. The DPS reports the 22-year
old victim was driving east on FM 1747 when he failed to yield the right of way and struck a
pickup at the intersection of FM 2799, which is west of Jasper. The driver of the car, whose
name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year old female passenger
in his car was airlifted to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup, 54-year old Lawrence Spikes of Jasper, was transported to Jasper
Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
