A Beaumont man convicted of murder for the February 2014 death of a Vidor teen may get a
new trial following the reversal of his murder conviction from the Ninth Court of Appeals. The
higher court ruled that judge in the Kelvin Roy did not instruct the jury of a lesser charge
of manslaughter. Roy was sentenced to 75-years in prison for the death of 16-year old Lexi
Bertrand. She died after the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck by a vehicle driven
by Roy on Main Street near the train tracks. During the first trial, Roy’s girlfriend testified
that he was trying to kill her and crashed into the second vehicle after going airborne over
the tracks.
