A routine traffic stop by Jefferson County deputies Wednesday afternoon ended with a
south Texas woman going to jail on drug charges. The driver, 38-year old Benina Villareal,
of Rio Grande City, gave deputies consent to search her vehicle and more than 17 bundles
of marijuana were found. The 42 pounds of marijuana has an estimated street value of more
than $84,000. Villareal was jailed under a $25,000 bond. Her car was released to her 18-year
old daughter, who was passenger along with her 9-year old son.
