Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles has asked the Texas Rangers to assist in an investigation
of evidence in active criminal cases being destroyed days prior to him taking office on January
1st. Rowles spoke with KLVI yesterday and told us former Sheriff Eddie Shannon mislead a
district judge to sign off to have key evidence from criminal cases destroyed. Items included
guns, pills, and other drugs. Sheriff Rowles says evidence involving the death of a woman was
also missing. The Newton County District Attorney’s Office has reopened that case.
