The Jefferson County Sheriffâs Office is conducting a death investigation. A 38-year old
inmate died at the jail yesterday afternoon. The inmate was brought to the jail for public
intoxication after he was medically cleared at a local hospital prior to arriving at the jail.
A corrections officer found the man lying on the floor and appeared to be in distress. Medical
staff at the jail quickly begin CPR. He was transported to a local hospital where he was
pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered.
