A federal appeals court will review a claim from death row inmate John William King, who was
one of three men convicted for the 1998 dragging death of James Byrd Jr. in Jasper. King’s
attorneys claim evidence in his trial was circumstantial. King was one of three men convicted
in the death of Byrd. Lawrence Russell Brewer was executed in 2011 and Shawn Berry is
serving a life sentence.
