Newton County has reached a settlement with former Sheriff Eddie Shannon. Shannon
filed a lawsuit against the county claiming he was a victim of false arrest, false testimony,
civil rights violations, and conspiracy. The case was settled out of court on Monday and
Newton County agreed to pay Shannon $200,000. As part of the settlement, the former
sheriff has dropped all charges against the county.
