Orange County Officials have confirmed 2 homes have taken on water. A shelter is being opened for residents that may need emergency shelter in the event their homes do take on water or lose electricity.
Shelter Location:
First United Methodist Church, Mauriceville
11929 Hwy 12, Mauriceville, TX 77626
(409) 745-4446
Residents will need to bring an ID, change of clothing, and medication.
Residents are still encouraged to SHELTER IN PLACE and avoid driving on the roadways due to water over the roads in some areas of the county. If you must travel, please take the following precautions:
Pay attention to barricades. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways and avoid underpasses. Be aware of hydroplaning. If you drive through neighborhoods, WATCH YOUR SPEED. High speeds cause water to be pushed into homes, endangering property and/or lives. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! DO NOT drive down flooded roads unless absolutely necessary to prevent water from being pushed further into yards and homes.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), along with local and county agencies, are urging citizens of Southeast Texas to stay off the roadways. Within the last 24-hour time period, Hardin, Jefferson and Orange counties have received an enormous amount of rainfall which has led to localized flooding along city streets, frontage roads and major highways.
If citizens have questions about road conditions, please visit www.drivetexas.org. This website has the most current information on Texas road closures and highway conditions.

Lake Livingston Dam discharge is 50,400 cfs and will increase.
If you live along the Trinity River and are not in an elevated structure you should to leave or be prepared to shelter in place.
The river will rise sharply and you need to move during daylight hours.
Again no rescues can occur at night, so please make all moves in daylight hours. If you cannot safely stay in an elevated structure and you do not have supplies you should leave and stay with friends or relatives until the threat passes.
Shelters remain open at Calvary Baptist Church in Cleveland and First Methodist Church in Liberty.
Please bring clothing, bedding, medicines and what food you can as Red Cross has been unable to deliver sheltering supplies due to road conditions, so shelters are asking folks to be somewhat self supportive for tonight.
