Testimony resumes this morning at the Jefferson County courthouse in the capital murder
trial of Chandler Kyle Ventress. The Beaumont man is on trial for the 2015 shooting death
of Mettha Kuruppu, who was shot and killed during a robbery at the Pick-N-Shop store on
Major Drive. If convicted, Ventress will receive an automatic life sentence as the state is
not seeking the death penalty. A second suspect, Sean Johnson, is awaiting trial.
