A north Texas man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 12 near Starks early
yesterday morning. 60-year old Saul Ramirez, of Ennis, was walking about 5 miles
east of the Texas state line when he was wearing dark clothing and walking in the lane of
traffic when he was struck. The driver of the pickup, Lee Kerr Jr. of Nederland, was not
hurt. Kerr voluntarily submitted a breath test at the scene showing no alcohol in his system
and he was not impaired. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.
