A man on death row for the 1998 dragging death of James Byrd Jr. in Jasper will appeal his

case tomorrow. 42-year old John William King claims he had poor legal representation during

his trial. The 5th Court of Appeals will review King’s case. King was represented in trial by

Sonny Cribbs, who passed away this past June. King was one of three men convicted in the

death of Byrd. Lawrence Brewer was executed in 2011. Shawn Berry is serving a life

sentence.
