A man accused of placing an explosive device near the Starbucks on Dowlen Road in Beaumont
and causing damage to St. Stephen’s Epsicopal Church with an explosive device is scheduled
to appear in a Beaumont federal courtroom today. 40-year old Jonathan Matthews Torres is
charged with use of an explosive to damage property, mailing a threatening communication,
and possession of what appeared to be an unregistered destructive device. An investigation led
authorities to Torres’ home in the 4400 block of El Paso Street in Beaumont.
