By a 6-0 vote, the Beaumont Independent School District’s Board of Managers have decided
to change the name of the district’s high school football stadium from the Carrol A “Butch”
Thomas Educational Support Center to the Beaumont Independent School District Memorial
Stadium. The stadium had been named after the district’s former superintendent. The board
faced opposition on the name change by the Beaumont chapter of the NAACP. Board member
Joe Domino, who is leaving the board, abstained from voting.
